In Articulate 360, videos from platforms such as YouTube or Vimeo can be easily integrated into learning content – whether in Storyline 360 or Rise 360. However, sometimes the video does not appear or cannot be played. In this article, we show you what might be causing this and how to fix the issue step by step.
1. Insert the video URL correctly
Incorrect or incomplete URLs are a common cause of problems when embedding videos.
In Rise 360:
In the block editor, choose, for example, the Multimedia > Video block or Embed.
Paste the full YouTube URL, e.g.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO-ID.
In Storyline 360:
Go to Insert > Video > Video from Website.
Copy the full embed code from YouTube (via “Share > Embed”).
Make sure the code is in
<iframe>format (https://www.youtube.com/embed/VIDEO-ID).
Tip: Avoid using short URLs such as https://youtu.be/..., as these are not always supported.
2. Check privacy and security settings
Especially in corporate environments, access to YouTube may be restricted.
What you can do:
Test the course in a different browser or in private mode (Incognito).
If necessary, avoid YouTube videos in privacy-enhanced mode (
youtube-nocookie.com) if your platform or network blocks the loading of external content.Alternatively, use videos that are imported directly into Storyline 360 or hosted on your own server.
Note: Rise 360 requires an internet connection for embedded videos. If the video does not load, check your network settings or contact your IT department.
3. Check network settings and browser compatibility
If a video is not displayed, it may also be due to the browser or network.
How to check:
Temporarily disable ad blockers, script blockers, or VPNs for testing.
Test the behaviour in Chrome, Firefox, or Edge.
Try accessing it via a different network (e.g. a hotspot instead of corporate Wi-Fi).
4. Ensure compatibility with Articulate products
In Rise 360:
YouTube links must be in a supported format – only public videos work reliably.
For embedded
<iframe>codes, an Embed block is required.
In Storyline 360:
Use Video from Website only for hosted videos with a valid embed code (HTML5-compatible).
If you want to be on the safe side, import the video directly via Video > File – this embeds it locally in the course.
Tip: Publish your Storyline project in HTML5 format and upload it to an LMS-compatible platform to test the behaviour realistically.
5. Further recommendations
Avoid autoplaying videos where possible – modern browsers often block this.
Provide alternatives: for example, offer a transcript or a summary of the video content.
Use high-resolution thumbnails when playback is not automatic, to encourage users to interact.
Test your course regularly in the Articulate Review environment to ensure that external content such as videos loads correctly.
